"Yesterday evening, 70 women and LGBTQI people participated in the EAST’s public assembly on the dismissal of the Istanbul convention, in Turkey, Central and Eastern Europe, and beyond. Already 1700 people watched the video of our assembly on Facebook.

The composition of the assembly was very heterogeneous. Many interventions from Turkey described the wide opposition that the feminist movement is organizing against Erdogan's patriarchal attack. Several other interventions from Poland, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany and Belgium, discussed different ways in which the current war against women and LGBTQI people is waged. Starting from the opposition to the Turkish withdrawal from the Istanbul convention and to the Polish proposal of an alternative convention that aims to reestablish the primacy of the family, we agreed on the necessity of an imminent transnational response!

⚡ We decided to write a transnational statement to support and connect all the current and emerging struggles of women, lgbtqi, migrants, essential workers who have been contesting the attacks on Istanbul convention and the almost total ban of abortion in Poland; the familist welfare measures imposed within reconstruction plans and the attempt to treat women as essential but disposable workers; increasing patriarchal and racist violence and the criminalization of lgbtqi people ⚡ We will participate in the 1st May of migrants together with Transnational Migrants Coordination ⚡ Then we will have a new EAST assembly in May to make concrete plans, and to organize before the Summer a transnational mobilization, together with our comrades in Turkey! Let's show the power of our transnational connection!

STAY TUNED, ESSENTIAL TRANSNATIONAL STRUGGLES ARE COMING"
